It isn’t hard to learn how to play Craps. It’s the archetypal casino dice game, played at busy tables with noisy crowds, most of them betting on, and rooting for, the shooter. But it is also possible to win by betting against the shooter; in fact, the house edge on these bets is slightly lower.
Gaming fans can learn how to play Craps at many online betting casinos, without the pressure of an impatient crowd at the table with them. To learn how to play Craps on online betting sites, the player simply needs to understand the bets available at different stages of the game.
The Come-Out Roll, Setting a Point
The simplest way to explain how to play Craps is this: when the shooter bets on the Pass line, they are hoping to roll a 7 or 11 on their first roll, known as the Come-Out Roll. Before the come-out roll, bets can be placed on either the Pass or Don’t Pass lines.
If the Come-Out Roll produces a 7 or 11, Pass bets win even money and Don’t Pass bets lose. If the shooter instead rolls a 2, 3 or 12, Pass bets lose, but Don’t Pass bets will win even money for 3 and one of the other two totals; the casino will nominate either 2 or 12 as a Push result for Don’t Pass bets.
If the shooter throws any other total, namely a 4, 5, six, 8, nine or 10, that number then becomes the point, and the shooter must throw again. Note that six and nine are written out in full on the Craps table layout, to avoid confusion when seen from all angles.
Playing the Point as Set
For illustrative purposes, say the point set is 5. If the shooter has a Pass bet on, they must roll a 5 again before they roll a 7 to win even money. Of course, anyone with a bet on Don’t Pass is hoping the shooter will roll a 7, or ‘seven out’, before they hit their point again, because in that case Don’t Pass bets win.
Any other numbers thrown during this section of play do not matter. If the shooter hits the point before rolling a 7, they are paid any Pass bets and then get a new Come-Out Roll. If they roll a 7 first, Don’t Pass bets are paid. So the shooter can set and make a number of points, with a new Pass bet on each Come-Out Roll, before hitting a seven, in theory. When the shooter sevens out, Pass bets lose and the shooter must place a new bet for the next Come-Out Roll.
Other Betting Options Available
